How to make

  1. Prepare all the elements to make the first face.
For the mane: use a sharp knife to cut the cucumber into vertical strips.
For the ears: chop some of the remaining cucumber into two round slices and pick out two tomatoes.
For the eyebrows: use the same knife to chop two small pieces of cucumber.
For the eyes: pick out two blueberries.
For the whiskers: use a sharp knife to cut the rosemary into thin strips.
  2. Prepare all the elements to make the second face.
For the mane: carefully peel the satsuma and save all segments.
For the ears: using a sharp knife, slice the lemon into round segments.
For the eyes: pick out two blueberries.
For the whiskers: use a zester to peel curls of lemon peel.
  3. Prepare all the elements to make the third face.
For the mane: cut the chocolate fingers into halves.
For the ears: slice the banana into round segments and save two.
For the eyes: pick out two blueberries.
For the whiskers: place the chives in a bunch on a cutting board and hold them in place. Line up the chives so the stalks are at about the same length and then use a chef’s knife to chop any ends off.
  4. Toast your crumpets and wait for them to cool a little before spreading your cream cheese, butter, or jam. Place each crumpet on a separate plate.
  5. Carefully lay your cucumber slices, satsuma segments and chocolate fingers around each crumpet in a mane shape.
  6. Add the sliced cucumber and tomatoes, lemon and grapes, and banana for the ears to the top of each crumpet.
  7. Add the blueberries for the eyes on top of each crumpet. For the cream cheese lion, add the cucumber eyebrows too.
  8. Add the whiskers to each crumpet lion. For the chives, tie the bunch together with a loose knot to replicate a lion’s whiskers.
  9. Serve immediately!
