Stuffed Picnic Loaf

This traditional Ploughman’s stuffed loaf is picnic-perfect. Simply bundle it into your picnic bag, then slice and enjoy without worrying about any waste. This loaf will not only feed a whole family, but can be created almost any way you like, whether toasty warm or straight out the hamper - mix and match ingredients to suit your taste, choosing from our fantastic range of cheese and veggies. It’s an easy recipe that’s sure to impress better than any store-bought sandwiches.

How to make

  1. Start by grilling or frying the bacon and onion slices.
  2. Slice the top 3cm of the loaf off, removing it in one piece to replace later.
  3. Using a knife, hollow out the loaf, leaving around 1cm from the crust.
  4. Spread your chosen butter all around the inside of the loaf.
  5. Layer up the loaf with the cheese slices, then bacon, chutney, apple, and avocado.
  6. Next, add a layer of salad and tomato slices, then top with the onion.
  7. Simply replace the top of the loaf, wrap it tightly and chill in the fridge until you take it on your picnic.
  8. To serve, unwrap and cut into thick wedges.
