Perfect Fried Eggs Recipe

Quick, easy, and filling, fried eggs make a delicious, delightful breakfast! But do you know the secret to making the fried egg of dreams? No? Well, luckily, we do. A smattering of chilli flakes, a knob of creamy salted butter, and a sprinkling of flaky sea salt and freshly ground pepper, all heated in a frying pan, and hey presto! You’ve got yourself the perfect fried egg. Follow the steps below to make yours.

  • Make sure you cook your egg over the lowest heat possible, for the longest time possible.
  • Don’t overcrowd your frying pan by cooking too many eggs at once.

What you'll need

  • 1 free-range golden-yolk egg
  • 15g salted butter and a little extra, for spreading
  • Chilli flakes
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • Sourdough loaf, sliced and toasted

How to make

  1. Melt your butter gently in a non-stick frying pan over the lowest heat possible.
  2. Once bubbling, carefully crack your egg into the pan.
  3. Leave on the lowest heat to cook slowly, until the whites solidify. This may take five minutes or so.
  4. In the meantime, toast your bread and butter until it’s ready for the egg.
  5. Once the egg whites have cooked but the yolk is still runny, top your toast with your perfectly fried egg and sprinkle over freshly ground pepper, flaky sea salt and chilli flakes. Serve immediately.
