It's (Air) Frying Time: Easy Onion Rings

If you were one of the thousands of people who were lucky enough to be gifted with Christmas 2022’s top culinary gift, this simple starter is just what you need to get to grips with the nifty gizmo while serving up some devilishly moreish nibbles along the way.

What you'll need

  • A pinch garlic powder
  • 1tsp paprika
  • 2tsps salt
  • 30ml milk
  • 2 large white onions
  • 100g plain flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 120g breadcrumbs

How to make

  1. Preheat the oven to 95 degrees.
  2. Peel the onions and slice into thick rings. You can set aside the smaller rings for another recipe. Might we suggest this cheese toastie?
  3. Place all the flour into one large shallow mixing bowl.
  4. In a second bowl, add the milk and beat in the eggs.
  5. Pour out the breadcrumbs into another bowl or tray.
  6. In a small mixing bowl, shake together the paprika, garlic powder and salt. then divide and stir the mixture evenly among the 2 bowls and tray.
  7. Dip the onion rings in the flour first, making sure each ring is fully coated.
  8. Next, dunk them into the egg mixture, leaving no spot uncovered.
  9. Next comes the breadcrumbs. Make sure the rings are coated as thoroughly as possible for maximum flavour.
  10. Generously spray the inside of the air fryer with your chosen cooking oil. Place the onion rings into the air fryer and spray the tops with some more oil.
  11. Cook the rings at 190 degrees for 10 minutes, flipping each one at the 5 minute mark.
