The Birds and the Bees - Meet the Trailblazers Who Are Making a Buzz in the Egg World

Like all our suppliers, the creative brains behind the Birds and the Bees are passionate about animal welfare just as much as the taste and quality of their produce, but for these unique egg experts, it's not just the free-range hens that benefit.

After 25 years in the egg industry, they decided to steer the family business in a new direction, and with their already perfect eggs and beautiful country landscapes, it made sense to turn their attention to the environmental changes they could make. Working closely with small, local farms providing lovely natural surroundings for their hens, they realised they were in the ideal position to help out another entirely different species, too.

Aware of the dangerously dwindling British bumblebee populations, they decided to work in harmony with their hens’ environment by creating natural outdoor ecosystems for the bees to flourish as well.

With their West Country hedgerows that provide shelter for hives and hibernation, as well as natural water sources, the next big step to build the bees’ ecosystems was to start planting wildflowers to make the farms the perfect habitat for pollination.

There’s an exact science behind creating the perfect habitat for these endangered British insects, and the Birds and the Bees are making marvellous changes. Why not do your bit for the bees by using your Birds and the Bees egg carton to plant some wildflowers for your garden? Check out our easy instructions here.
