Meet One of Our Organic Dairy Farmers

We love making a positive impact on the environment, whether it's by providing glass bottled milk that helps our customers cut down on millions of tonnes of plastic each year, by delivering our goods in electric floats , or by supporting organic farming. With their nature-friendly methods, our organic suppliers make a real difference to the planet. We caught up with a couple of our dairy farmers to find out more.

Adam is a fourth generation farmer who has seen first-hand the benefits of organic on his Devon farm, which is home to 400 happy cows. His Holstein Friesians, Norwegian Reds and German Fleckviehs graze on fresh paddocks of organic barley, grain and grass; and sleep on the most comfortable sand bedding. Adam believes that happy cows living the organic life are the best source of milk, as you can be sure it's completely natural.

During his farm’s organic evolution, Adam saw some surprising benefits to his land. He explains that using legumes and clover instead of artificial fertilisers and pesticides resulted in higher quality soil and more local flora. It's thanks to this that an abundance of wildlife has made the farmland their home, including hares, bats and owls.

For Adam, sustainability doesn’t stop there. His farm is located in one of Devon's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the family-run business is passionate about protecting it, going so far as developing their own natural water supply, investing in energy-saving equipment, and even building their own wind turbines!

Adam’s principles of rearing healthy, happy cows on responsibly farmed land, and using the most natural organic methods possible all come together to result in the highest-certified organic milk.

As a rule, on organic dairy farms, the cows graze outdoors for at least 200 days of the year. They enjoy natural organic diets, and with the care they are given, they require no routine antibiotics.

As well as a higher standard of animal welfare, organic dairy farming creates a rich, naturally-fertilised soil that benefits the environment by taking carbon out of the atmosphere. By using all-natural methods, organic farming has a great overall impact on the farm's environment as well as its animals and produce.
