How to Make Tasty Garlic Bread at Home

There's no resisting the allure of a golden, buttery garlic bread. The tantalising aroma, punchy flavour, and crunch make it one of the most popular snacks. But did you know that making restaurant-quality garlic bread at home is easier and quicker than you might think? Follow our top tips for making the perfect garlic bread, and you'll be the toast of your kitchen in no time.

Step 1: choosing your bread

For a classic garlic bread, you might think a French baguette is the only way to go. Long and slender, it's perfect for breaking off hearty slices and offers a fantastic balance of crust and softness. But it's not the only option! Wholesome multigrains and authentic artisan sourdoughs work just as well. Each has its unique charm, so go with what tickles your taste buds!

Step 2: creating the perfect garlic spread
Now for the important bit - the spread, a heavenly combination of butter, garlic and herbs. For an
effortless mix, start with a rich creamy butter softened to room temperature. Netherend Farm's Organic Lightly Salted Butter is ideal. For the flavour, fresh minced garlic is a must, delivering a kick that dried garlic just can't match.

To really elevate the flavour, you won't want to skip the herbs. Nothing beats finely chopped parsley fresh from the garden, while a final pinch of oregano and a spattering of black pepper infuses a little extra magic.

Step 3: buttering up

The only secret here is to be generous! Slice up your bread as you please and make sure no crumb is left untouched, especially the edges, which crisp up beautifully in the oven, providing a moreish crunch that perfectly complements the soft, garlicky centre.

Step 4: into the oven

Crank your oven up to 180°C. Carefully wrap your garlicky creation in foil and pop it in the oven for fifteen minutes to stop the bread from losing its moisture. After fifteen minutes, unwrap it and let it bake for another five minutes to achieve a golden glow and irresistible crunch. While it’s baking, keep a close eye on your masterpiece to avoid it burning. It's all about achieving that perfect balance of crispy and soft!

Step 5: garnishing your garlic bread

The final flourish to your homemade garlic bread lies in the garnish. A dusting of freshly chopped parsley offers a bright pop of colour and flavour. If you're a cheese aficionado, why not sprinkle some finely grated parmesan on top before baking? This will give you a beautifully melted cheesy layer with a little extra bite.

Fancy a bit of spice? A smattering of chilli flakes will add some fire to your loaf. Garnishing isn't just about making your garlic bread look pretty; it's about layering those tantalising flavours. So go on, get creative with your garnish!

Step 6: serving your homemade garlic bread

Serve your freshly baked garlic bread straight from the oven while it's still piping hot and the butter's beautifully melted. Let it take centre stage as a starter alongside some homemade dips, or pair it with your homemade pasta dishes as a tasty and comforting side. However you choose to serve it, your homemade garlic bread is bound to be a crowd-pleaser.
