Milk FAQs

All our milk comes from British farmers who operate to the highest welfare standards and national farm assured quality standards. We work with dairies across the country in order to deliver local produce to our customers and keep our food miles low.

All our organic milk is certified by either the Soil Association or Organic Farmers & Growers, both of which have animal welfare standards at their heart. The organic cows are truly free-range, spending as much time outdoors as possible with plenty of space and access to pasture.
All of our farms have to comply fully with the Red Tractor Assured Dairy Scheme (RTADS) – the UK’s national farm assurance scheme – against which they are independently audited. We do not impose any one farming system on our suppliers so they can choose the system most appropriate for their farm, however animal welfare is a key focus within the RTADS, regardless of the dairy farming system.
Our suppliers purchase milk from several farms local to their processing site, who have different farm sizes and production systems. We believe good stockmanship is the critical factor for animal health and welfare and we expect all our suppliers to adopt industry best practice and achieve the highest standards. The herds from most of the supplying farms would graze outside at certain times during their lactation cycle subject to the time of year, weather, and ground conditions. We do not impose anyone farming system on our suppliers so they can choose the system most appropriate to their farm.
A1 milk comes mainly from cow breeds originating from Northern Europe. These cow breeds include Ayrshire, British Shorthorn, Holstein, and Fresian. What they all have in common is their milk which contains the A1 beta-casein protein. A2 milk comes mainly from Charolais, Guernsey, Jersey, and Limousin cow breeds.
Homogenisation is a process the breaks down the milk cream under high pressure so that it remains suspended evenly throughout the milk. In non-homogenised milk, the cream separates and rise to the top.

All our skimmed milk and semi-skimmed milk is homogenised. Our Whole Milk and our Organic Whole Milk is not homogenised. Our Channel Island Milk variety, which has a rich 5.1% fat/ cream content is also not homogenised.

We do offer a Homogenised Whole Milk in our standard fresh milk, but not in organic.
All milk sold by Milk & More has been pasteurised to make it safe for human consumption and to lengthen the time it will keep, without causing any deterioration in its quality. We do not sell raw milk.

Some oat drinks can be frozen – always check the label. However, changing an oat drink's temperature can cause it to separate, leaving its texture grainier once defrosted, so it may not blend so well in your hot drinks. Always check on an individual product if it is suitable for freezing, and be careful to pour the drink into a freeze-safe container.
